Domestic Violence Victim/Witness Advocate

(Grant Funded Position)

DEPARTMENT: Office of the Prosecutor

REPORTS TO: Chief Prosecutor

DEFINITION/PURPOSE:

Under general supervision performs case management of all criminal case victims, including domestic violence victims, provides information and service referrals to victims and organizes domestic violence prevention education programs and events for the community and Nation’s employees and performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Writes and submits federal grant applications, monitors grant budgets, prepares and submits grant reports and coordinates with Nation’s Grant representative and the federal grants representative.

· Maintains case statistics and assists with data entry of departmental case statistics.

· Provides appropriate support, advocacy, referrals and information to crime victims including, but not limited to victims’ rights, cases status and victim input.

· Acts as liaison with department personnel, criminal justice agencies, public and private and interstate organizations, medical facilities and mental health agencies to coordinate referral services.

Provides transportation to and from court hearings for victim witnesses and arranges emergency shelter for victims.

· Assists with the preparation of victim restitution requests.

· Assists victims in preparing and submitting petitions for Protection Orders and Injunction Against Harassment Orders.

· Heads the DV Task Force Team including, but not limited to, scheduling and conducting monthly meetings, updating the team on the grant budget and planning community and employee educational trainings, presentations and projects.

· Organizes the annual October DV Prevention Month events and activities and participates in other community events to promote DV prevention education to the community.

· Case manages all criminal cases involving victims including hard case files and electronic case statistics.

· Monitors, maintains and distributes DV surcharge funds.

· Collects, compiles and analyzes information, prepares reports with interpret data and justifies recommendations including policies and procedures relative to advocacy.

· Plans and participates in community relations activities and creates public service information brochures and Website.

· Reports on the status of cases, program development and community needs to the Chief Prosecutor.

· Coordinates the Nation’s Crisis Response Team program as the Program Manager, including supervising volunteer team member and handling all program administrative duties, and participates in the program as a core member, including being on on-call status and physically responding to calls when appropriate.

· Other duties, as assigned.

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE:

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with professional staff and community members.

  • Knowledge and experience regarding case management and specific experience working with victims.
  • Knowledge and understanding of domestic violence, the cycle of violence, confidentiality and trauma based interviewing techniques.
  • Knowledge of community and state-wide resources and the criminal justice system.
  • Strong organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience working with federal grants.
  • Dependable, self-starter, self-motived and accountable

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION:

1) Associate’s degree in criminal justice, social services or related fields and three (3) years’ work experience in criminal justice, social work, crisis intervention or related field; or

Bachelor’s degree in related field and two (2) years’ work experience in criminal justice, social work or crisis intervention; and

2) Knowledge and experience with federal grants and grant funding; and

3) Current AZ driver’s license and meets FMYN insurance standards; and

4) Prior related experience with tribes preferred.

PAY RATE: $52,327.66 to $62,793.19 per Annum (Depending On Experience)

POSITION STATUS: Regular, Full-Time, Grant Funded Position
