Job Description

EthosEnergy is seeking a Control Room Operator to join our team at Rhode Island State Energy Center, (RISEC) which is a 609 MW combined-cycle gas turbine power plant located in the Johnston area. The person holding this position is responsible for the day-to-day overall plant operations and managing the safety, environmental and production risks of maintenance and contractor activities at the facility. He or she must be multi-skilled in at least two of the following power plant disciplines: operations, mechanical maintenance, electrical maintenance, or instrumentation and controls, and would have the ability to operate the control board, perform mechanical maintenance or electrical duties, and/or perform as an instrumentation and controls technician. Other responsibilities include to monitor plant performance and is capable of identifying mechanical, electrical, and I&C corrective action when appropriate. He or she directs the activities and work of other O&M technicians on his or her shift.

Approved Salary Range for this position is $100,000 to $125,000 per year based on skillset and education. Qualified applicants must have Five-(5) years of power plant experience in operations and/or maintenance, including experience as a Control Room Operator (CRO). This position requires ability to work a rotating shift schedule - offering scheduled and unscheduled overtime.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of and ensure that all site safety requirements and procedures are properly implemented, consistently observed and corrective actions are initiated when applicable.
  • Oversees and provides guidance on all facility operations, including startup and shutdown of main plant components, auxiliaries and system components.
  • Assist with establishing and continually improving comprehensive and efficient programs in operations, maintenance, chemistry, environmental control and safety.
  • Oversee the collection and analysis of plant operational and performance data. Maintain logs and records through a standardized process for the purpose of recognizing any abnormal plant conditions and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Interpret and understand ISONE daily plant dispatch and communications, and plan operational and maintenance activities to ensure high reliability and performance of the plant.
  • Assists in developing standard procedures for operations and maintenance.
  • Assigns and drives daily work tasks ensuring high work quality from operations technicians.
  • Interacts with various equipment and service vendors.
  • Works a rotating shift schedule, scheduled and unscheduled overtime and is capable of performing physical tasks
  • Establishes and maintains high personnel and professional standards of safety and environmental conscientiousness and compliance.
  • Performs other duties necessary to fulfill plant requirements.

Required Skills / Knowledge

  • Knowledge of power plant mechanical and electrical equipment, (including motors, pumps, boilers, fluid systems, chemical handling, water treatment systems, cooling towers, pollution control equipment, AC and DC electrical distribution and control systems, etc.) and associated maintenance functions.
  • Knowledge of power plant safety policies and procedures, especially in the areas of high-energy systems, chemical handling, heavy equipment, rotating machinery, confined spaces, incipient fire suppression, and first aid
  • Knowledge of federal and local permits and regulatory policy including environmental and NERC standards
  • Knowledge of and experience in at least four (4) of the following skill areas: login interpretation, rigging, rotating machine repair, fabrication, piping schematics, mechanical drawings, electrical theory, electrical safety, vibration analysis, electrical test equipment, basic electrical trouble-shooting, and high- and low-voltage systems switching, equipment and components
  • Ability to comprehend and apply technical information, including mechanical and electrical drawings (such as blueprints, P&IDs, single-line diagrams, and schematics), to problem-solving situations and troubleshooting
  • Ability to locate, trouble-shoot, and adjust defects in mechanical equipment and/or maintain, install, modify and trouble-shoot plant electrical systems and equipment (even while on-line) without “tripping” equipment (with supervision, if necessary)
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate work on technical subjects with others across job families and with outside vendors
  • Ability to operate and maintain various analytical and test equipment
  • Outstanding skill in leadership and interpersonal relationships
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, and other computer-based programs.
