About the Charter Bus Driver Role
A Charter Bus Driver at A&A is more than just a driver—you are a brand ambassador, safety steward, and logistics coordinator all in one. You’ll be responsible for operating a full-sized commercial motorcoach or bus to transport passengers to chartered destinations, ranging from local excursions to multi-state trips. This role requires expert-level driving proficiency, a commitment to DOT and FMCSA compliance, and a strong focus on delivering an exceptional passenger experience.
Role Purpose
The Charter Bus Driver ensures the safe, efficient, and timely movement of passengers while maintaining strict adherence to regulatory standards, client-specific requirements, and A&A’s customer service expectations. This includes monitoring vehicle safety systems, navigating optimal routes, communicating trip status updates, and responding calmly to any on-the-road issues.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Passenger Transport & Safety - Safely operate a commercial motorcoach in accordance with CDL Class B licensing and P-endorsement standards.
- Conduct safety briefings, enforce seat belt use, and monitor passenger behavior during transit.
- Remain alert and responsive to road hazards, traffic patterns, and weather conditions.
Compliance & Record-Keeping - Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections using FMCSA-compliant vehicle checklists.
- Complete and maintain trip logs, mileage reports, driver’s logs, and DVIRs.
- Accurately document Hours of Service using manual or electronic logging devices.
Customer Experience - Greet passengers in a professional and courteous manner.
- Communicate delays, route changes, or schedule updates clearly.
- Represent A&A and client organizations professionally at all times.
Vehicle Condition & Incident Response - Monitor vehicle systems; report malfunctions or concerns.
- Coordinate with dispatch or maintenance for repairs.
- Respond to incidents, breakdowns, or emergencies appropriately.
Position Requirements
Licensing & Credentials - Valid CDL Class B with Passenger (P) endorsement.
- Must meet FMCSA and DOT medical standards.
- Clean MVR with no major violations in the last 5 years.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of verifiable commercial driving experience.
- Familiarity with regional and interstate roadways.
Knowledge, Skills & Traits
- Working knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, and ADA regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
- Strong time management and route optimization skills.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPR/First Aid Certification.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish or other language.
- Charter/tourism or school/government transportation experience.
Working Conditions
- Long periods of sitting, including overnight and out-of-town assignments.
- Exposure to traffic, weather conditions, and variable shift hours.
- Physical ability to assist passengers and lift 40+ lbs. of luggage.
