Duties
The principal function of an employee in this class is to assist law enforcement with enforcing criminal laws related to computer crime through forensic collection, recovery, processing, preservation, analysis, storage, maintenance, and/or presentation of digital evidence. The Forensic Examiner conducts forensic examination(s) of electronic devices including computers, mobile devices, and other digital data storage media. Considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of creativity, independent judgment and initiative in order to accomplish criminal investigative objectives, dependent on software and hardware expertise. Assists investigators and prosecutors in the preparation of search warrants, prepares reports, testifies to investigative findings, prepares investigative information and cases for court purposes. Provides on scene technical guidance and assistance during the execution of search warrants. Serves as subject matter expert on technical matters relating to digital evidence and testify in court or at hearings as an expert witness in the area of digital forensics. The principal duties of this class are performed in a forensics laboratory or in conjunction with police officers in the execution of search warrants in the field.Requirements
