Job Posting: Library Assistant III - Circulation (P/T)

Salary: $15.63 - $17.06

General Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Circulation Librarian, performs the full scope of clerical and para-professional responsibilities in the operation of the circulation department. This is a part time position that would also include shifts at the South Suburban library branch.

Essential Functions
The following may not be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

• Trains and revises the work of volunteers in the Circulation Department, which includes instruction of day-to-day duties.  
• Prepares and returns library material to appropriate location, utilizing alphabetical and numerical filing systems.  
  
   
• Catalog and process periodicals and magazines.
• Consults with supervisor prior to discharging any library materials that appear unsuitable for re-shelving.  
• Refers patrons (either on phone or in person) to appropriate individual or department; aids impaired patrons by locating materials suitable to their needs.  
• Consults with supervisor for the purpose of control and arrangement of library materials in main library.  
• Checks in and out materials to patrons both manually and on computer terminal.  
• Establishes eligibility of patrons for issuance of a library card; prepares library cards.  
• Collects payments and issues receipts.  
• Keeps apprised of library policies and procedures.

Education, Certification, & Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid Driver's License
