JOB TITLE:  Occupational Therapist

REPORTS TO:  Manager of Occupational Therapy

WBI is an Inpatient Behavioral Health Hospital and residential treatment center in Casper, Wyoming.  We have a multi-disciplinary approach to treatment with a focus on psychiatric and behavioral health stabilization for patients of all ages across Wyoming and neighboring states. WBI has numerous Psychiatric clinical, therapy, nursing, OT, tech and support teams who all work together for patient care.  We are a fast-paced ever growing Clinical Team and we take pride in being a family-friendly, educational, supportive and welcoming work environment.

Wyoming Behavioral Institute is currently seeking an  Occupational Therapist  to join our Psychiatric Inpatient and Residential Treatment Hospital. Mental health experience highly preferred.

In collaboration with an interdisciplinary treatment team (including Physicians, Nursing, Therapists), provides therapeutic Occupational Therapy services including assessments, evaluations, treatment, education and documentation of these services. Provides Occupational Therapy services applying the principles and theories of goal-directed, purposeful activity in assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and modifying patient care as an active continuous process. Monitors the treatment activities of COTA’s and aides and supports supervision of OTA services

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs and documents comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations & performs assessments to be utilized for treatment
• Develops and documents patient care plans to promote optimal patient function and safety
• Observes, evaluates and documents patient’s progress
• Participate in multi-disciplinary treatment teams and patient care conferences
• Educates patients and care givers on therapeutic techniques, cares and treatments
• Completes all documentation and charges of services per department or program standards
• Functions as clinical instructor and supervisor and Lead for occupational therapy aide (COTA) students
• Assists with developing and conducting occupational therapy in-services
• Orients and mentors newly assigned staff

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduation from an occupational therapy curriculum accredited by the American Medical Association
• Certified or eligible for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification examination for Occupational Therapist, Registered (or eligible for Registration). As a condition of employment, employees hired on an "or eligible" status must take and pass the first available examination after his/her date of hire
• Proof of Wyoming Occupational Therapy License or temporary license
• Must be 21 years of age or older
• Must be willing and able to work with behavioral health patients or those suffering from mental illness and/or their families.
• Must be able to pass a robust background check including post-offer drug screen, physical, criminal background check and fingerprints. 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous behavioral health hospital experience/rehabilitation experience

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

• Knowledge of policies/procedures and practice standards; occupational therapy theory, techniques, and treatment; physical therapy and orthopedic equipment; counseling and educational techniques; bandaging and wrapping techniques
• In mental health: including group dynamics, group facilitation, psychopathology, personality development, counseling and educational techniques, communication and social skills, sensory integration, stress management and health maintenance, activity analysis
• Ability to perform professional occupational therapy techniques and treatment; calibrate and operate occupational therapy equipment
• Ability to provide work direction for ancillary personnel
• Ability to counsel and instruct patients and families; ability to recognize and document patient progress
• Ability to work cooperatively with other members of the medical team
• Ability to interact with individuals of widely diverse lifestyles including ability to deal objectively with individuals whose attitudes and behaviors differ from his/her own
• Ability to read and interpret written instructions, patient charts, and physicians' notes
• Ability to interpret policies and procedures in an advisory capacity (educate)
