Position Summary: The On-call Digital Video Host / Producer will collaborate with our digital video production team to produce high quality digital video content, primarily for Digital Video content development projects at KQED
. The On-call DV Host /Producer will participate in the editorial process, write and narrate segments off camera, perform on camera, and make public appearances as a part of the video production.

Salary Information: $45.88 to $57.35 per hour
Essential Functions: The On-call DV Host/ Producer is accountable for contributing to KQED’s digital growth strategic goals and for actively collaborating with various departments within KQED. The duties of the On-call DV Host/ Producer include:
- Perform as host for original digital video and vertical video series pilots and ongoing projects. This includes: table reads/rehearsals, recording on-camera video and audio voice-over narration for each script, interviewing guests, and recording limited pickups as required
- Pitch story ideas as available
- Appear on camera and / or record narration VO for video segments.
- Record VO and on-screen video for occasional short promotional segments and other KQED media assets as needed.
- Collaborate with and support the Digital Producer, Vertical Video in the creation of derivative and original vertical video content, as needed.
- Collaborate with social / engagement producers to promote digital video content on social media platforms with posts for YouTube Community Tab, YT Shorts, TikTok and Instagram, featuring behind the scenes content, audience polls and quizzes, and other audience engagement strategies.
- Work together with series and department teams to advance Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in series coverage and internal and external interactions.
- Represent KQED and the Digital Video department with appearances at public events (in person and online) and screenings, as available.
- Participate in host collaborations with other digital video series.
- Performs other video and organizational duties as assigned.
PROJECT- / SERIES-SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS - Deep Look
DEEP LOOK is a wildlife video series about small animals and plants from KQED and PBS Digital Studios, distributed on YouTube. We have won 12 regional Emmy awards and a Webby award, among others. In our four-minute videos, we use macro photography and microscopy to give our audience a close-up view of the natural world they rarely experience:

- Participate in the writing of Deep Look scripts with the episode producer, striving to make the storytelling as engaging as possible.
- Bring to the table some experience reporting on science, environment or health.
- Attend Deep Look editorial meetings and participate in the shaping of story ideas. Be available to record in person at KQED or at a remote location, if they live outside the Bay Area.
- Be available to self-record social videos remotely using materials provided by the Production Team.
- Review finished scripts for any language that may require additional fact-checking by the Production Team.
- Cross-promote videos on personal social media platforms.
Knowledge/Experience Required: - Voiceover and on-screen performance skills.
- At least 3 years in video/broadcast/radio journalistic reporting and script writing experience.
- Thorough knowledge of journalistic principles, ethics and standards.
- High proficiency in on-camera voicing and performance skills.
- Strong fact-checking and research skills.
- Experience moderating panel discussions and appearing as emcee at public events.
- Experience using social media and leveraging personal “brand” to promote series.
- Ability to build and maintain connections and occasionally consult with community partners and organizations relevant to the editorial and audience focus of KQED’s Digital Video strategy.
- Advanced ability to collaborate creatively with colleagues.
Knowledge/Experience Desired: - Familiarity and ease with using social media to promote stories.
- Deep understanding of what it means to create inclusive media for a diverse audience.
- Experienced with web publishing procedures and CMS systems or blogging software (WordPress preferred).
