About Our Minds Matter

Our Minds Matter (OMM) is working toward a day when no teen dies by suicide. Driven by research and led by teens, OMM clubs create safe, brave spaces where young people build social connections, practice self-care and healthy habits, and offer peer-to-peer mental health support. Originally founded as the Josh Anderson Foundation, we began with five schools in Fairfax County in 2012 and a sole employee: founding Executive Director Lauren Anderson, who named the organization in honor of her brother, Josh, who died by suicide at the age of 17. In the decade-plus since our founding, OMM has grown to become the leading provider of peer-to-peer mental health programming for teens in the DC Metro Area (DMV). We are a majority BIPOC-led organization currently supporting a network of 149 clubs in high schools, middle schools and teen centers nationwide, with the majority located in the DMV.

The Role

OMM is seeking a Research Analyst to support OMM staff with our ongoing work on an array of research and program evaluation projects. This role will be responsible for providing technical expertise as well as project management and administrative support to the M&E team. As a Research Analyst, you have a unique opportunity to join a growing nonprofit and be a part of the mission to improve teen mental health. This role will directly report to the Director of Impact (DI).

Key Responsibilities & Project Deliverables: 

Our Minds Matter is seeking a research analyst for the following: 

• Survey analysis and report
• Conduct data cleaning and perform descriptive and predictive statistical analysis of data collected from year-end surveys, based on specific timelines established in communication with DI
• Interpret qualitative and quantitative data and findings and identify critical factors such as data limitations, biases, sampling errors, and inconsistencies
• Independently develop charts, figures, and analytical text for reports of survey findings to be shared internally with OMM staff and externally with relevant stakeholders
• Maintain accurate records and safeguards the confidentiality of data and sensitive information

• Focus group data collection, analysis, and reporting
• Support data collection of OMM alumni focus group under the direction of the DI
• Take thorough notes of what’s communicated during the session
• Develop and carry out an analytic plan for qualitative data collected through an equity lens (e.g. regularly examine one’s own biases, recognize the limitations of findings based on who is represented in data, etc.)
• Identify and report themes from the qualitative data collected within timeline 

• Other M&E support as assigned 

Assist with other evaluation/research projects as needed. Tasks related to this may include:

• Support measurement & evaluation infrastructure work
• Assist with the preparation for the launch of annual outcome survey in 25-26 school year
• Consult and/or contribute to research planning 
• Other duties as assigned

Project Length: 

April 1, 2025 - July 31, 2025 with the possibility of extension pending successful completion of project deliverables.

Project Compensation: 

$45 an hour, 70 hr/month for approximately 4 months 

Location:

This is a hybrid position. While much of the work can be completed remotely, the position will require some onsite support of data collection in the DMV area in the summer.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Public health, Social Sciences or a related field with training and coursework in research methods and statistics 
• At least two years of quantitative and qualitative analysis experience including academic, professional, and voluntary. 
• Advanced analytical skills: The ideal applicant must have evidence of a strong foundation in quantitative and qualitative statistical analysis, proficiency with data analysis software (such as SPSS or R), and the ability to conduct advanced analysis such as predictive modeling and multivariate analysis. They should be adept at working with complex datasets and have a keen eye for details to ensure data accuracy. Skills in visualizing data and presenting insights in a way that is accessible to stakeholders are also vital. 
• Demonstrated research experience: The successful candidate will have proven research experience, preferably at an academic institution, a think tank or similar research organization, advanced understanding of research methods, experience conducting primary and secondary research, and the ability to maintain various datasets. 
• Organized and responsive: The ideal candidate will be highly organized and able to manage multiple assignments to meet deadlines and produce high-quality deliverables in a fast-paced environment
• Attention to detail: The successful candidate will show a commitment to accuracy and rigor while demonstrating a high level of attention to details.
• Commitment to Community and Collaboration: The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills with the confidence to interact effectively with people at all levels of the school system (from administrators to students). They will have a keen interest in the advancement of young people, especially those from the underserved communities.
• Self-motivated, creative thinker and problem solver who is able to work independently while seeking appropriate direction & guidance from others when needed
• Ability to present data and research findings in a variety of formats that clearly identify patterns in the data (e.g. reports, oral/visual presentations)
• Proficiency in Google Suite; experience with Canva is a plus
• A commitment to ethics and equity in research practices

Desired Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Psychology, Public health, Social Sciences or a related field with training and coursework in research methods and statistics
• Passion for improving culture around mental health 
• Familiarity with supporting research in an academic field (such as a professor or senior researcher)

Full-Time Opening (August 2025)

While our current need for this position is at a part-time capacity, we anticipate the need to hire a full time Research Analyst in July. We will strongly lean toward transitioning a candidate from the part time role into the full time position, pending their interest/availability as well as successful completion of project deliverables associated with the part-time role.

Key Responsibilities 

Analytics [50%]

Tasks related to this work include:

• Data mining and gathering from existing data sources
• Work collaboratively with DI to develop an analysis plan to assess program outcomes
• Data cleaning and preparation 
• Analyze data using statistical tools and advanced analytical methods
• Interpret data sets and identify trends, patterns, and insights relevant to program outcomes and impact
• Contribute to reports, proposals, and presentations by creating charts. graphs or other data visualizations to communicate findings
• Assist in building and maintaining a comprehensive M&E infrastructure, including keeping detailed records on processes and procedures for data collection, analysis, and reporting

Research coordination [25%]

Tasks related to this work include:

• Assist DI with the design and implementation of surveys
• Provide administrative support for online data collection effort, including maintaining the mailing list, disseminating survey invitation emails, reminder emails, parents consent forms, etc.
• Assist with field research, including implementing research protocol and ensuring its fidelity, coordinating scheduling and logistics for site visits, managing incentive distribution, etc. 
• Timely completion of data entry for all paper surveys collected, based on specific timelines established in communication with DI

Scholarship [20%]

Tasks related to this work include:

• Conduct background research and literature reviews of peer-reviewed articles and grey literature on topics related to youth mental health and suicide prevention and share progress and trends in the field with the program team 
• Support in the preparation of scholarly manuscripts and poster presentations
• Assist with preparing for the submission of research proposal to the district public school institutional review board (IRB)
• Support the DI and PI in the development of research grant proposals to federal and private funding agencies

Fundraising & partnership support [5%]

Tasks related to this work include:

• Assist the OMM development team with grant reporting or proposal development by fulfilling stat/data requests
• Perform other duties as assigned

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this full-time position ranges from $74,000-$105,000.

Location

This is a hybrid position, and the Research Analyst must reside within an easy commuting distance of downtown Washington, DC. This position is expected to travel to DMV area schools and sites occasionally to support various data collection. OMM will provide mileage reimbursement for travel to sites. 

The candidate is expected to report to the primary office location at 1100 15th St NW, 4 Floor, Washington, DC 20005 (WeWork Midtown office) weekly on Wednesday.
