Job Responsibilities/Duties
Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) is the tank farm operating contractor at the Hanford Site located in Richland, WA. The WRPS mission is to safely store, retrieve, and treat 56 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste. The contractor is also preparing to support the Waste Treatment Plant Operations by procuring long lead equipment spares for the future as requested by the Department of Energy. The Direct Feed LAW (DFLAW) Engineering Acquisitions group was formed within the WRPS Engineering organization in order to support this effort. The group will be responsible for near term and future long lead high dollar equipment spares to ensure the Tank Farm and WTP continue to Operate.
This position will have the following overall responsibilities.
This position will support the spare melter fabrication efforts that are currently on going and projected in future. It is estimated that there will be approximately 17 melter fabrications that will require a technical competency to oversee a multiyear challenging equipment procurement process. The individual will function as a Project Engineer with Design Authority and Accountability through our engineering qualification process.
Specific engineering duties will include the following;
Develop studies or technical evaluations of alternatives for equipment acquisitions
Develop specifications to support build to print or design-build equipment
Develop inspection criteria for large fabrications
Develop statements of work and support procurement processes to obtain fabricators
Review and approve submittals from fabricators
Interface as necessary with the design engineering organization to update any design media
Interface with WTP or Tank Farm organizations to support replacement of equipment as necessary
Interface with Engineering discipline leads to ensure code compliance
Respond to Requests for information and Non-Conformances from fabricators
Oversee fabrication contractors; perform status meeting, walkdowns, support testing
Provide status to Engineering and Project management on contracts
Mentor junior engineers on the project
Prepare and conduct presentations as need
Please Note: This position is being advertised under the current Tank Operations Contractor, Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS). However, now that transition activities have begun a candidate selected for employment may be hired under the incoming contractor, Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure (H2C) contract. Further details will be provided during the hiring process.
Required Qualifications
Grade 18:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline; and
Seven (7) years of related experience
Grade 19:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline; and
Nine (9) years of related experience
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.
Grade 20:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline; and
Ten (10) years of related experience
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with application of Mechanical codes and standards
Experience managing contractors on all aspects of technical scope
Ability to read and interpret complex fabrication drawings
Direct experience with the use of Microsoft Office products, Solids works
Ability to lead small groups of engineers to reach a common technical decision
Understand schedule and cost information
Presentation and verbal communication skills

In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
Hiring Range Minimum: $104,175
Hiring Range Maximum: $158,875
